Christmas Twitter campaign to urge to shop local

Shoppers have been urged to do their bit and take part in shopping local to help local businesses rebuild from the coronavirus pandemic. From buying a quirky gift from an independent business, to using the services of a locally based company, by shopping locally people can help local business owners and local communities get back up and running.

Hull City Council Managed Workspace Centres have taken this opportunity to run a Twitter campaign to highlight local businesses based in the centres as part of supporting businesses in a two week ‘Supporting Local Businesses – Christmas Campaign’ running from 22nd November to 3rd December 2021.

Shopping at local businesses pumps money into the local economy, helping to grow the number of jobs in our local areas and importantly, assisting businesses in survival. Small businesses are often run by people who live nearby. As the UK continues to recover from the pandemic, the experience of buying locally from a friendly face offers a dose of normality that many people may have missed.

It’s important to encourage more people to return to shopping locally, in a way that is safe and gives them confidence. It’s vital now more than ever that we do what we can to support our local small businesses. The past few months have been among the most difficult that businesses have ever had to endure.
