The Managed Workspace team welcomes Jacob McLean

The Managed Workspace team welcomes a new team member, Jacob McLean.  Jacob is based at Craven Park Training and Enterprise Centre as a part of the Managed Workspace team as part of the Kickstart scheme for the next 6 months.

Hull City Council have made a commitment to give a chance to those unemployed and looking for work. With a host of candidates, Jacob shone above the others – an avid Hull KR fan may have been an added catalyst. “Being here will be a great opportunity for me to learn and gain valuable experience. I will be able to develop on my current skills and learn new things that will benefit me in my future employment and endeavours. Being here will also allow me to work as a part of a team and teach me how better to use communication skills.” Said Jacob.

The Kickstart Scheme is a new programme launched by the government to deliver funding for employers offering new job roles for 16-24 years olds currently in receipt of Universal Credit. The programme is aimed at preventing young people who are currently unemployed facing long term unemployment.

“It’s really important that those who have the ability and capacity to do something like this give back and present an opportunity” Allan Rookyard, Manager of the Managed Workspace Centres said. “Jacob deserves the opportunity to learn, to develop and progress in his early career, and being placed within our team gives him those resources to do just that. We will encourage and support Jacob at every turn and do what we can and that is needed in order for him to reach his potential and grow to that next stage”.

The work placements aim is to help young people build up their skills and experience levels and be a stepping-stone into further employment.  The scheme was initially announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak in his summer statement but was officially launched on September 2nd 2020.
